Why attend a Residential?
The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is known all around the world, and Gold is the most respected level. This is because participants must successfully complete these sections;
12 months (18 months for those who haven’t completed Silver).
Choose one section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months.
An adventurous journey for 4 days & 3 nights.
Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days & 4 nights.
The residential week is a productive time; jam packed with activities, all in a lovely and encouraging environment. It’s a condensed example of all the Duke of Edinburgh Award has to offer.
The young people have fun, make friends, and improve their self-esteem. It gives them character traits like confidence and resilience, that can boost their mental health and wellbeing and help them face and overcome personal challenges. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and university and job applications.
The objective is to work as a team and share an activity with new people.
‘A shared activity is one undertaken by all the participants together, all achieving the same aims and having the same experience'.
